I am delighted that Trafford Council have, in principle, welcomed our vision for this international sporting initiative to become a reality. It will deliver huge economic benefits both for Trafford and for the North West region. Jim Cumbes, Chief Executive
Lancashire County Cricket Club

Overview of the scheme

This is a one-off opportunity – without the development, Old Trafford and the North West will not host an Ashes test match again.

The ECB has provisionally awarded International Test Matches to Old Trafford in 2014 and 2016, subject to the plans being fully implemented by the end of 2012.

The total project would deliver over £47m of improvements to the Old Trafford cricket ground.

Phase 1 of the development work is now taking place at Old Trafford. The Point, a new conference and events suite, is due for completion in July 2010.

The £32m phase 2 stadium works (the subject of the planning application) must begin by Autumn 2010 with completion in late 2012 in order to “win” and “host” an Ashes Test Match in 2013.

The Club alone cannot afford to redevelop Old Trafford cricket ground and the proposals are dependent on the Tesco cross subsidy.
